Lee Gilman

ISA Board Certified Master Arborist

Tree Risk Assessment Qualified

Tree and Plant Appraisal Qualified

NHAA Certified Arborist

Lee, with early interests in trees and the environment, initially pursued a college degree forestry. However, his focus gradually shifted towards the performance of landscape plants and ecology in the built environments that surround us more closely in our daily lives.

This shift led Lee to transition into an Arboriculture curriculum at a time when the US had only two college-level programs in that emerging field. After earning his degree in Arboriculture, he went on to attain an Agricultural Economics degree from Cornell University.

Upon entering the tree and landscape industry, Lee took on responsibilities for overseeing plant performance assessments and pest management operations in the Denver metro market. This role marked the beginning of his continuous refinement of diagnostic processes and his ability to enhance the performance of ornamental landscape plants.

Lee relocated and joined Bartlett Tree Experts, helping to manage an operation growing urban trees and shrubs on Staten Island in New York City. This role presented numerous challenges, such as managing a diverse range of plants, pests, and abiotic urban stress factors. Over five consecutive years, Lee consistently ranked as the company’s top-producing representative in providing integrated pest management (IPM) and plant health care (PHC) services.

During this time, Lee actively participated in the administrative boards of various professional groups, serving at both regional and state levels. His contributions led to his recognition with New Jersey’s prestigious Arborist of the Year award.

Lee career next took him to New Hampshire where he worked as a Products and Services Developer for the Tree Care Industry Association. In this role, Lee expanded his experience by developing production, safety, regulatory compliance, and business management support products for the tree care industry.

Lee Gilman & Associates, LLC, founded in 2008, aims to support the integration of plants into architectural themes within the built environment. Our interdisciplinary approach leverages synergies at the intersection of: arboriculture, forestry, horticulture, and agriculture; landscape design, site design, and woodland design; plant health care, ecology, and pest management; and consulting with professional standards and the applied sciences.

In 2026, the firm shifted its focus to technical consulting services and educational outreach. Our hands-on care services were transferred to Bartlett Tree Experts, a longtime associate. Currently, Lee Gilman & Associates primarily provides information to aid decision making in areas such as: plant diagnostics, tree risk assessment, personal injury, timber trespass, chemical trespass, and construction damage mitigation. Additionally, we support forensic investigations, including litigation support and expert witness services.
